Everything you need to know before you cast your line at the 30th Bowen Fishing Classic. From how we score catches to what’s allowed at weigh-in — it’s all here.

Please make sure you’re across all rules and agree to the competition terms before hitting the water. We’re committed to keeping the event safe, fair, and fun for everyone. All competitors participate at their own risk, and it’s your responsibility to fish within legal and competition guidelines.

  • ✅ Fish must be fresh, gutted and gilled.
  • ❌ No billfish (Marlin, Sailfish, Swordfish).
  • ❌ No sharks, eels, rays or catfish.
  • ❌ Mutilated fish are not accepted.
  • ✔️ Fish must meet legal size & bag limits.
  • ❌ No shooting, harpooning, lancing or netting.
  • 📻 Overnight boats should contact VMR 487.
  • 🚨 All boats must carry legal safety gear.
  • 🧍‍♂️ Max 5 species per person incl. crabs.
  • 🪪 Only registered ticket holders may weigh in fish.
  • 🚨 Disputes must be raised within 15 mins post weigh-in.
  • ✂️ Anal fin will be clipped at weigh-in — don't pre-mark fish.

  • 🎯 Points assigned based on difficulty of catch (species factor).
  • 🏆 Only highest weight per species counts (max 5 species).
  • 📋 See species factor list at weigh-in board.
  • 🤝 Tie-breakers decided by Weighmaster & officials.
  • 🚫 All scoring decisions are final, no correspondence entered into.

All participants enter and compete at their own risk. The Bowen Fishing Classic, its volunteers, committee, or any associated party will not be held responsible for any loss, damage, or injury incurred during the event.

Winners are responsible for arranging transport and collection of prizes. Delivery or shipping is not included with any prize unless specified.

No, a fishing license is not required for recreational fishing in Queensland’s tidal waters. Just make sure you follow all size and bag limits and our competition rules.

Absolutely! We encourage young anglers to get involved. There are special kids’ categories, heaps of prizes, and fun activities onshore all weekend.

Nomination cards can be collected from the Registration Tent at Front Beach on the event weekend. We’ll also have select early pickup points announced closer to the date.

The event goes ahead rain or shine! We’ll keep an eye on weather alerts, but unless it's unsafe, the fun will continue — just pack a poncho.

Yes! On-the-day registrations will be open at the Registration Tent on Saturday morning, but we recommend registering early to skip the queues and secure your spot.

Yes, there will be dedicated parking zones near Front Beach. We’ll also have clear signage and traffic marshals to guide you on arrival.
